Role:

  • Under direct supervisor, provide Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene (OS&IH) field support for the ERDF project.
  • Provide safety and health support for the development of work plans, activities, and documents.
  • Anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control hazards working to eliminate injuries, illnesses, and accidents.
  • Perform assigned industrial hygiene work scope demonstrating technical competence and good judgment.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:

  • Review work documents and provide comments for improvement and compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Execute standard industrial hygiene tasks with competency and attention to detail.
  • Provide a strong field presence and perform oversight of field operations to ensure compliance with approved safety program; safety and health programs and by observing work, mentoring supervision, and promoting communications with the work force.
  • Prepare and oversee the completion of S&H reports, plans, procedures, assessments, and project strategies to ensure CVE activities are conducted in compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Assists in developing and implementing programs for monitoring and preventing chemical, physical and biological hazards in project work areas
  • Prepare and input data in an accurate manner to various safety and health databases and electronic programs.
  • The OS&IH personnel shall be present on site during the established site work hours to fully support work activities. Safety and industrial hygiene coverage shall be coordinated as necessary during approved hours outside of the established site work hours (i.e., early starts and overtime).
  • Maintains knowledge of and demonstrates ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures and applicable regulations and performs assigned duties in a safe manner.
  • Provide leadership and coordination of employee involvement in implementation of the Safety and Health program, integrated safety management system (ISMS), employee and company level safety groups/programs and Voluntary Protection Program activities.

Accountabilities:

  • Ensure OS&IH solutions meet specifications and performance requirements.
  • Willingness to perform all tasks related to the implementation of an effective safety and health program, including but not limited to, industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring, chemical inventories, respiratory protection program issuing and tracking of equipment, maintaining inventory of necessary supplies and daily surveillance of safety systems.
  • Ensure necessary documentation is generated to meet safety and industrial hygiene compliance requirements to enable operations to execute project scope.
  • Maintain required qualifications for assigned role.
  • Contributes to a strong safety culture including, but not limited to, good industrial hygiene practices, conduct of operations, and implementation of ISMS.

Authorities:

  • As delegated and qualified, review and approve OS&IH deliverables.
  • Review, approve and communicate the results of industrial hygiene sample results.
  • Other authorities as delegated by Safety and Health Manager or Project Manager

Work Environment

This job operates in a both a professional office environment and in a field setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  Field conditions require the use of PPE and adherence to posted requirements. 

 

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to work extensively in outdoor environments, and within a CERCLA waste site.  Also able to utilize a keyboard and similar equipment typically found in an office environment. In addition, this position requires the following:

  • Lift up to 30 pounds without assistance using appropriate safety and lifting methods.
  • Ability to work in harsh outdoor environments, including snow, rain, ice, and muddy conditions

Qualifications

Education & Certifications:

  • BA/BS degree in a related field and
  • 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Experience & Requirements:

  • Radiological training is required
  • Intermediate PC skills including Microsoft software
  • Strong understanding of federal and state policies and regulations, project policies and requirements
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Travel

  • Limited to attendance at conferences and other continuing education training workshops.
