Overview

The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Work involves a variety of the following duties: using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets painting structures and equipment; repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks, replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles, hanging doors and installing door locks, replacing broken window panes, and performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery. This position also stands watch on various operating equipment monitoring and recording operating data. Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
 Patches minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings using plaster or compound.
 Repairs and replaces sinks, water coolers, and toilets.
 Paints structures and equipment.
 Cleans work area, tools and equipment.
 Repairs or replaces concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks.
 Inspects vehicles and delivers vehicles for maintenance by others.
 Replaces damaged paneling and floor tiles.
 Hangs doors and installs door locks.
 Replaces broken window panes.
 Performs general maintenance on equipment and machinery.
 Participates in training as required by regulations and job requirements.
 Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
 Assists with preparation of labor and material estimates.
 Stands watch on various operating equipment monitoring and recording operating data.
 Performs fire and security watch duties.
 Other duties may be assigned and may be assigned to perform work outside craft, if workload requires.
 This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This job operates in an industrial environment. Use of personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hats, and gloves are required.


Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications:
 High School Diploma or equivalent is required and three to five years related experience; or equivalent
combination of education and experience


Experience & Requirements:
 Must possess of a valid unrestricted driver license and must have and maintain an acceptable driving record.
 Must pass a through U.S. Government background check administered by the Department of Interior, Bureau of Reclamation
